tibrO yaLP (2022) was an exhibition at g39 arts centre, Cardiff exploring play in response to the exhibition Play Orbit, first shown at the Welsh National Eisteddfod in 1969.
https://g39.org/cgi-bin/website.cgi?place=exhibitions&id=5694 I produced three interactive audio-visual sound art experiences and games for this using self-configured sound toy software. One was a movement and colour reactive table sound installation where the position and colour a set of cards, placed on a white table triggered soft electronic drones and piano notes through an array of 4 loudspeakers within a space. Each visitor to the table was able to move these cards- allowing different visitors to the table to play and reconfigure a precomposed piece of music with other visitors while within the space. The second installation was an interactive concrete composition where cameras tracked visitor movements within a small area of a room and mapped these to a changing set of electronic, mechanical and piano sounds recorded or sequenced in different rooms within the exhibition space - allowing visitors to play a fixed area of space together. The third game was an interactive dance and live music installation where the dancer Lara Ward and myself took turns triggering and changing which of a set of pre-recorded audio loops could be heard during a dance and music jam - exploring the potential to play sounds through set movement-to-sound mappings. |
